DEMO OUT

Finally, after much stumbling, we got a beta/demo out. Feedback is welcome, it is still being developed of course. We also set up pre-orders, right here, which gives you the latest PC version for half ($7.50) the final price ($15) plus all updates and the final game when it is done. We have had no funding at all, so please consider supporting us so we can make better games!

Megabyte is the name, punching is the game

Sweetness! We submitted a proper demo to the Intel Level-up contest. There is a village, 3 levels (with each 3 stages and a boss) and a bazillion parts. No lie.. …OK It’s a lie. It’s about 62 so that’s still very close. Once we get this show on the road I’ll be back to posting upda-WOW A SCREENSHOT

HEADS UP

It looks better right? We still want to clean and prepare some things before putting this version online. That’s not to say it will be perfect (not even if we wish really really hard), but we want to get this out as right as we can, as fast as we can.

Megacs

You brave reader, who dares to venture in such an absence of updates!

Megabyte Punch is a fighting game by nature, but adventuring and especially collecting is also a big part of the game. So, in between hard work and some more hard work, I’ve put into words a little setting for the upcoming demo (which is coming up quite well!).

Megacs

Megacs are neither robots nor living beings, they are computer creatures. They have the power to attach any Megac part to themselves and use its abilities. They don’t know where they came from or who made them, but they do know that a Megac is more than the sum of its parts and have learned to reconise their friends by their soul.

The electronic world in which they live consists of two different types of areas: the wilderness and the havens. The wilderness is hostile and unpredictable, you’ll never step into the same place twice. Spread out, the havens are more stable areas, hence they are more sought after. Most are in control of warlord Megacs, others are peaceful village-like settlements. It is in one of these where you first start your journey to become a master Megac.

With the Grand Tournament approaching, rumors are circulating of mysterious ‘Megabyte’ parts granting unimaginable abilities. But even entering the tournament will have you fighting tooth and nail against lost Megacs, warlords and imperial generals to prove your worth.

Line of death

Megabyte Punch will have a demo out in March! A proper one too, so big features need to be made. This takes a bit more time than just adding content, this is why there has been an absence of updates recently. Great things are in the works though! Screen shakes, music and some really wicked sounds are going to put the Punch in the mb. Plus improved AI, GUI, the workshop, a new level type and of course a lot more overpowered special abilities.

Look forward to it!

Squeak Squad

Hey you! Remember Stuiter Uil? Well, we made it better in 1 and a half weeks to enter a ‘Unity3D to flash’ competition with it.

“Squeak Squad is a quirky game starring owl chicks travelling the world to find their mother, but instead find Broadway success! The game is played only with the mouse as you guide the chicks past obstacles. You can increase the size of your squad by hatching eggs, found by defeating enemies, but can also be found hidden in all sorts of places throughout the world. The game consists of 6 levels in 3 themes (Gypsy Forest, Buddha Mountains and BroadWay Show).”

In other words, it’s got tiny owls and you should play it.

This caused the Megabyte Punch update to be somewhat delayed, BUT FEAR NOT, I will start working on it again. Right. About. Now.

Levels, stages, bosses, enthusiastic exclamation!

As you try this newest version, the first thing you will most likely notice is that there is a battle playing out between two opposing sides (in which you are unfortunately unable to participate). One would think there is a reason for all this violence, a higher goal… well there isn’t. We had some fun with factions and AI so just ignore it for now. Anyway, you’re standing in a hub. It’s a safe place to dabble in your part collection and it’s a crossroad to other worlds.

With this new update, the game is structured like this:

Worlds are general themes (like ‘Electro Caves’) and are made up of 3 unique levels, these are in turn made up of 4 stages, with the last being a special type of stage like a boss fight.

The amount of parts far outweigh the abilities right now, so I’ll work on that a bit more for the next update!

Big changes:
+ Added levels, stages and bosses
+ Added indicators for which level, world, stage you are
+ Two new part sets (a psychic and remixed classic set)
+ Added hub
~ Changed the default part set

The 5th of December update

Time for some new stuff! Press the big ‘play!’ button to play the newest version. Remember to play in fullscreen with F11. I really recommend playing this with a XBox360 controller and a friend.

The game now saves your attached parts every time you pass through a door or choose the ‘save and quit’ option in the pause menu (escape button). There’s also a brand spankin’ new inventory and attachment interface. It’s inspired by the item selection system of the newer Legend of Zelda games, and it really makes things a lot easier and faster!

Open it up with ‘R’. You can drop a part with the right mouse button and attach with the left button. The inventory is emptied every new level, so be sure to attach stuff you want to keep. These parts will eventually be transferred to your collection, which you will be able to access in a workshop.

There’s also a new arena level. Check it.

…but who is this guy?

google 'sinterklaas'

Changes:
+ Added the saving of player builds
+ Added an inventory
+ Added new attachment interface
+ Added auto-picking up parts
+ Added new fighting arena
+ Added dropping down through platforms (down jump)
~ Changed/added various level graphics

Stuiter Uil, the 12 hour game

Hello again!

As a little side thing, me and Tim, of newly formed Reptile, had some fun and made a game in half a day.

You can play it right in your browser over here.

It’s called Stuiter Uil, how to pronounce it is up to you. Just move around with your mouse and click eggs. You can link it around if you want, it’s free! Why? It’s fun, that’s why.

Glorious fullscreen

Tiny update! I have set the default resolution to 1024×748, a simple but very nice improvement. Also, you can now press F11 to play the game in fullscreen mode (once you leave fullscreen the content becomes inactive though, so you’ll have to click it again).

In other news, the Reptile company site is underway and we’ll be getting our new desks and carpet tomorrow!

Megabyte your legs off

Lots of new stuff! Let me comment on some. First of all, the controls. Move with WASD, attack with ‘b’ and do a special move with ‘n’ (or your left and right mouse button). These special moves can be found on parts. You can have up to 4 of them and you can switch between them with 1 2 3 4.

Ability slots left, damage and lives right. A work in progress of course.

Shielding is now on ‘e’ and shield pierce (or stab) is on ‘q’. Parts are picked up with ‘r’, hold it down to have the attachment interface pop up. Speaking of parts, there are now actually some parts to collect! Some sets you can only get from enemies, others from treasure chests.

PlayPlayPlayPlay

List of Changes:
+ Added a new default set of parts
+ Added new legs, arms and head for the standard enemy
+ Added three full sets of parts to collect (slasher, blacksmith and boxer)
+ Added an ability switch to allow use of up to 4 different abilities
+ Added a new enemy (slasher) in adventure mode
+ Added the stab on ‘q’
+ Added a slice ability
+ Added a teleport ability
+ Added stats to certain parts
+ Added some jump effects
+ Plants!
+ Added player indicators in the GUI and on the player at the start of a match
~ Moving is now only done with WASD
~ changed the shield to ‘e’ and picking parts up is now done with ‘r’
~ Changed the ingame HUD
~ Hitboxes with more damage now have priority over weaker ones, equal hitboxes will cancel eachother out
* Numerous small fixes

Also, I was surprised to find out that this my 11th post! Which happens to be posted on 11/11/11!
